Self Reproducing Machines - Self Creating Mechanical Programmable Machines

One goal of SG-Lib is to build machines that can reproduce themselves. For this it is necessary to go mentally from digital computers back to the analog computers and then back to the mechanical calculating machines. The breakthrough in digital calculators is due to hardware description languages such as CONLAN,REGLAN (Piloty), with which digital calculators could be formally described from transistor circuits and then automatically constructed and manufactured using the mask exposure method. The step to build programmable digital computers with it was already at that time the goal. If it is possible to automatically design mechanisms as the basis of mechanical computers, then not only mechanical computers but also mechanical, mechanically programmable computers can be realized. A robot is a programmable motion automaton. A mechanism is a motion automaton for a predefined motion. A 3D printer is a programmable motion automaton that can produce motion automatons like mechanisms or robots. It must therefore be possible, with a description language for the construction of mechanisms, to construct motion automata that can reproduce themselves and that can process material that can serve both as building material and also contain the coding of the building instructions. It is still open whether this happens/should happen in the sense analogous to a "group" in mathematics or also the space can be left to the functioning solutions. Hardware Description Languages exist since 1965 (HDL/VHDL)

The Conlan (short for CONsensus LANguage) project started in 1973, motivated by the proliferation of hardware description languages (HDL’s) defined around the world since 1965 [1], Conlan was the first attempt to propose a standardized multi-level HDL, with formally defined semantics.
